A lot of people see security as people who stand around looking bored. This is why it is so popular for immigrants. It is seen as "easy work". In the transport industry they have "Drivers" and they have "Operators". The security industry is no different. We call our drivers shirt fillers or warm bodies.
So what makes a good security guard?

Spatial Awareness
- Are you aware of what is happening around you.
- Is anyone around you acting in a strange manner.
- Offenders do not walk up and introduce themselves
Knowledge of your job ie
- If you are questioned, what act of government are you operating under
- What are you protecting?
- Why are you protecting it?
- What are the risks associated with the job?
- What is the procedure if something goes wrong?
- Have these procedures been tested?
- What are the contact details or who do you call when something goes wrong?
- If you are carrying a baton (or any other weapon), are you preapred to use it?
Looking for weekend work or casual Pub/Club work? We are compiling a list of casual guards which will be made available to venues and other companies. The responsibility lies between the guard and the employer. This will present the opportunity to get the names of new guards out there that otherwise may not be able to find work. This is not an offer of employment. It is a means to find employment.
The list will consist of your Name, DOB, Phone number, NSW Security Lic Number and RSA Number. Your email will be required but will not be made public available.
The following documentation must be supplied in original format at either the time of application or upon an interview. All documentation / plastic must be current.
Mandatory
- Certificate II in Security Operations (including subject list)
- NSW Security Licence
- Drivers Licence (preferably NSW)
- Current First Aid Certificate. FA Certificates are valid for 3 years from date of completion. Those who recently completed the Cert II course will have done first aid with the course.
- Paid Working with Childrens Check (Obtain these thru Service NSW)
- Proof of Residency - This will be one of the following;
- Visa Paperwork plus a current passport or
- Australian Birth Certificate (Full copy) or
- Australian Residency Documentation.
Additiona Paperwork if available (Not mandatory)
- RSA Certificate
- RCG Certificate
- Any OH&S Certificates
- Security Firearms Licencing
- NSW White Card or Interstate equivilant
- Safe Work Issued licences
- Training in Risk Management
We grow tired of constant stories from a lot of guards about flat rate, contract rate or non-payment of wages from a lot of companies. This is a summary of conditions when employed by the One Tree Solutions Group.
Rosters
- Done weekly Mon - Sun and where possible, all shifts are 10 hours or less with 10 hour breaks between shifts.
- Religous holidays are accomodated for those who practice.
Wages
- Paid weekly into your nominated bank account.
- Full overtime, loadings etc paid.
- No Cash work. No flat rates. We do not "subbie" to ABN holders.
Holidays
- All holidays are as per NES Standards and paid where required.
- Public holidays are to be worked unless you are lucky to get a day off. It is the nature of the industry. You will be paid appropiately.
Other Leave Arrangements
- As per NES standards.
Uniforms
- Torch, shirts, hats, jackets, vests, beanies supplied (pants by request). Shoes are personal preference or in accordance with the job.
- Each job has a phone issued for the role.
Vehicles
- All vehicles etc are supplied by the company for work purposes ie patrols or CIT.
- There is no public transport so staff will require there own transport to get to and from work.
- Out of town work will involve either a company car being supplied or reimbursement to the guard.
- Travel and expenses in these cases is paid
Training
- You will be required to undertake training as part of your role.
- You will not go solo until we are confident you are capable of performing your role.
Shift Arrangements
- You are employed to work security. This means working nights, weekends and public holidays while your mates are out partying. Please consider this when applying for any positions.
- We do not offer Monday - Friday shifts. All arrangements are 7 days / 24 hour committments with 32 or 38 hour contracts.
Staff are reminded that while you may work solo, you are part of a team and as such may be required to assist other staff as they may need to assist you in similar situations.
