Questions
When you work for an employer, they must stipulate what the payroll conditions are at the time of employment. Example If a busniess pays wages on a weekly basis, you must be paid weekly. Staff must be paid on time regardless of when the client pays the employer. Most business pay either weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Monthly payments tend to be for permenant staff. Wages should be in your account by Thursday of your allocated pay week.
When working you are either covered by an EBA or the national Award.
- The national award (MA00016) in most cases, does not allow for flat rate payroll.
- An EBA or enterprise agreement can stipulate flate rate payroll but it must be approved by the government. The agreement must be better than the award to be legal. The EBA may offer a higher hourly payrate or other conditions which make it a better deal than working award. Your payroll details will be given you in writing at the time of employment as part of your employment offer. If you are not sure, contact Fair Work Australia
